Welcome in the Laboratory of Cell Physiology.

The laboratory of Cell Physiology of the Hasselt University , Campus Diepenbeek is involved in teaching activities in medicine and in the biomedical sciences.

The main idea of the fundamental research of the group of Cell Physiology is to investigate the behavior of cells under stress. There are 5 different projects:

  1. In the context of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research in cooperation with the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED), the effects of ischemia on oligodendrocytes are investigated.
  2. Together with the Centre for Environmental Sciences (CMK), the influence of heavy metals (Cadmium) on animal and plant cells is studied.
  3. Investigation to the membrane transport in epithelial and neuronal cells.
  4. Electrophysiologic study of neurons of insects.
  5. Development of applications of molecular fluorescence in collaboration with the Institute for Materials Research (IMO).

The Cell Physiology research group is supervised by:

  1. Prof. Dr. Marcel Ameloot
  2. Prof. Dr. Jean-Michel Rigo
  3. Prof. Dr. Paul Steels
  4. Prof. Dr. Emmy Van Kerkhove

You can find all members of the research group and their personal information here...
